A recent criminal interdiction mission in East Portland led to a series of arrests and significant drug seizures, reports the Portland Police Bureau. The operation, which spanned Friday, September 13th, and Saturday, September 14th, involved collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies, including Oregon State Police and the Gresham Police Department.
The focus of the initiative targeted the open use and sale of narcotics, specifically around the neighborhood intersections of Southeast 122nd Avenue and East Burnside Street and Southeast 148th Avenue and East Burnside Street. From a total of 33 individuals detained, six were issued citations. According to the Portland Police Bureau, the police actions resulted in one stolen vehicle recovered and one firearm seized among other findings.
The Multnomah County District Attorney's Access Program (MAAP) was also involved, providing assistance in navigating recent drug law changes. This resulted in three people being offered deflection services, which intend to steer eligible individuals towards rehabilitation rather than incarceration. Two accepted these services, while one individual refused.
Law enforcement's haul from the mission was substantial. The seizures included 152 fentanyl pills, 199.5 grams of fentanyl powder, 30 grams of methamphetamine, 1.5 grams of heroin, and 257 grams of cocaine. The Portland Police Bureau's East Precinct announced their intention to stage further such missions, which are likely to continue with cooperation from various agencies.
