Portland residents can expect a shift in weather patterns over the next few days, according to the National Weather Service. Today's forecast includes mostly sunny skies with a comfortable high near 79 degrees and light winds picking up from the north northwest in the afternoon. Conditions will cool slightly tonight, dropping to a low of around 56 degrees accompanied by a calm north-northwest wind.
The stable weather is set to continue into Tuesday with more sunshine and a high of approximately 75 degrees; however, the calm of these two days masks the tumult to come, Tuesday night’s skies will cloud over and a 60% chance of rainfall is expected after 11 pm, the anticipated downpour brings with it the potential for between a tenth and a quarter of an inch of rain according to a detailed forecast provided by the NWS.
By Wednesday, Portlanders will need their umbrellas as the chance of precipitation soars to 90%, with rain before 11:00 A.M. potentially leading into thunderstorms until 5:00 P.M., then more likely rain and thunderstorms predicted after 5:00 P.M. The high temperature will dip to near 65 degrees, and new rainfall could exceed a quarter of an inch if thunderstorms develop. The wet conditions are expected to persist into Wednesday night before tapering off, with a 60% chance of rain likely before 8 pm and showers mainly lingering between 8:00 P.M. and 11:00 P.M.
A 30 percent chance of showers remains for Thursday and partly sunny skies with a high near 70 are on the horizon. The remainders of the week into the weekend offer a reprieve from the midweek soakings, temperatures averaging out in the low 70s during the day and mid-50s at night offering a return to the more gently undulating cadences of early fall weather. The coming days may still hold a slight risk of showers, particularly on Saturday and Sunday nights.
