A harrowing scene unfolded on the Riverwalk Trail in Puyallup recently when a man, wielding a hatchet and a machete, allegedly lunged at passersby in a threatening manner. According to FOX 13 Seattle, the Puyallup Police Department received calls of "intimidation with a weapon" around 2:26 p.m., prompting a swift response to the area.
The suspect, described as either a white or Hispanic male in his 20s, was reported by witnesses as trying to attack someone on the pathway, compelling, locals and trail-goers to seek safety. The News Tribune noted that Puyallup Police Captain Kevin Gill explained the police department's use of the Guardian 1 helicopter, which was spotted overhead during the incident, is typically reserved for severe situations, including tracking serious felony suspects.
Law enforcement's efforts to apprehend the individual extended to the deployment of Puyallup police's K-9 unit. The team proved crucial in locating the suspect, who was eventually found on the riverbank still in possession of one of the weapons, as reported by KOMO News. The suspect's detention brought an end to a tense episode that disrupted the peace along the popular trail.
