Yesterday marked the sixth anniversary of a tragedy that struck the Rancho Cordova community. Officer Mark Stasyuk of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office was fatally wounded in a shootout after he and his partner, Officer Julie Robertson, answered a call regarding a verbal disturbance at a local auto parts store in 2018. According to a statement by the Rancho Cordova PD, the officers arrived at the scene and were swiftly engaged in a gun battle with the suspect. Officer Robertson was injured during the exchange of gunfire that occurred inside the premises.

During the incident, Officer Robertson not only had to engage the suspect but also sought to immediately render aid to her fatally injured partner. The suspect managed to initially evade capture by fleeing the scene but was apprehended a short distance away. The Rancho Cordova Police Department remembered Stasyuk for his dedication and friendly disposition. "A highly energetic, friendly, and motivated police officer, Mark was an asset to his community, RCPD and SSO, and the law enforcement profession," they said.

Officer Stasyuk, described as an ambitiously motivated individual, had served four-and-a-half years with the Sheriff’s Office. His aspirations were deeply rooted in serving the community of Rancho Cordova, a testament to his dedication to the calling of public service.

The department encouraged people to reflect on Stasyuk's contributions to the community and to send thoughts to his family. "His loss will never be forgotten," the statement from Rancho Cordova PD further noted.
