A man involved in a shooting late Sunday night in Rancho Cordova was detained early Monday morning following a standoff with Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies near a North Highlands apartment. The incident, which began approximately at 11:45 p.m. at an apartment complex along Lincoln Village Drive, escalated into a prolonged confrontation, ending with the man's detention at around 6:30 a.m. the next day.
The suspect, a 32-year-old male, had reportedly been in an altercation with an ex-girlfriend, though, according to ABC10, no one was hit in the initial shooting incident. Sacramento Sheriff's deputies were able to track the man to an apartment located at the intersection of Walerga Road and Galbrath Drive where the standoff ensued.
In a statement provided by Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office, it was detailed that the suspect was holed up in an apartment with his mother and a three-year-old child. Also present in the apartment were two other individuals, believed to be either family members or friends of the suspect. The exact nature of their relationship to the man has not been clarified.
During the hours-long effort to resolve the situation, deputies faced challenges in making contact with those inside the apartment. Deputies had been trying to contact the people inside the apartment since around midnight, but it was a challenge, Gandhi conveyed. The resolution came in the early morning when deputies safely detained the suspect and assured that the four other inhabitants of the apartment were unharmed, according to Sacramento Sheriff's X post.
