
On a day marked by ceremonial pride, the Plano, Richardson, McKinney, and Frisco Police Departments celebrated the graduation of their newest officers from the Plano-Richardson Police Academy. These individuals had completed the 21st Basic Peace Officer Class (BPOC 21), a program that began on February 19 and encompassed over 1100 hours of comprehensive training designed to prepare them for the multifaceted demands of law enforcement. The ceremony, which took place last Thursday, honored not only the collective achievement of these recruits but also singled out those whose performance stood apart.
Amid the recognitions, Recruit Officer Reader from the Richardson Police Department was awarded the "Overall Top Cop Award," an accolade that reflects superior accomplishment across academic, fitness, and firearms disciplines. According to the Plano Texas Police Department, Recruit Officer Reader achieved an outstanding score of 95.6%. Moreover, he secured the valedictorian title with a 98% overall GPA, a testament to his academic prowess in understanding various Texas codes crucial for day-to-day policing.
The physical demands of policing were highlighted through awards such as the "Top Physical Fitness Award," which was bestowed upon Recruit Officer Spyropoulos from the Frisco Police Department for showcasing exceptional standards of fitness. Plano Police Department's Recruit Officer Chakos was recognized for outstanding personal improvement, having shown an impressive 50% enhancement in physical fitness since the commencement of training, earning the "Most Improved in Physical Fitness Award." In the domain of marksmanship, Recruit Officer Diba of the McKinney Police Department was pinpointed for precision, securing the "Top Shot Award" with an almost perfect score of 99%.
Leadership within the class itself was underscored by the appointment of a "Class President" and "Class Historian," roles that went to Recruit Officer Sullivan-Herrera and Recruit Officer Simpson, both of the Plano Police Department, respectively. They were credited with going "above and beyond to support their fellow officers, demonstrating exceptional leadership qualities", as per the Plano Texas Police Department.
