A 12-year-old boy was shot and killed in the Meadowview neighborhood of Sacramento, in what has become the city's third fatal shooting in less than a day. The Sacramento Police Department reported that the incident occurred just after 6 p.m. on the 7600 block of 22nd Street near Meadowview Road. According to an article from The Sacramento Bee, the boy, upon being found with at least one gunshot wound, was pronounced dead at the site of the shooting.
Details remain sparse as authorities have yet to release a description of the suspect. Police have publicly asked for the community's assistance to quickly find those responsible for the shooting. "With something like this, something that may seem small to you, may be very instrumental in our investigation. So we strongly urge our community to please reach out," Officer Anthony Gamble told KCRA.
As the Sacramento community reels from this tragedy, the police have emphasized the gap that the loss of such a young life leaves behind. "There's families that are going to be grieving tonight and in the nights and the weeks to come. And so there's no amount of words that we can provide in that circumstance. Now, our job is to try to find justice for these families and find the people that were responsible," Gamble further explained, according to KCRA. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is expected to disclose the victim's identity in due course.
