The City of Sacramento is reaching out to its residents for input on the expansion of the Two Rivers Trail system. The expansion aims to connect Sutter’s Landing Park with the existing trail network, providing locals with enhanced routes for outdoor activities. According to a recent update from the Sacramento City Express, this new stretch of the trail will bridge roughly one mile of unconnected pathway and include a loop around the Old City Landfill, located just east of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

The initiative, led by the City’s Department of Public Works, seeks public opinion on the preferred layout of this addition to the trail system. "This will close the majority of the gaps in the trail and we’re looking for public feedback on their preferences on what the exact route should look like," said Adam Randolph, project manager and senior engineer with the City’s Department of Public Works, in a statement obtained by Sacramento City Express. Feedback can be given through an online survey available until September 10, which will help in finalizing the trail design.

Further completion of the Two Rivers Trail will also entail finding a way over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and State Route 160, however, any concrete solutions will be a matter for future projects beyond the upcoming construction timeline. As outlined by the City, phases of the project span from a feasibility study and preliminary engineering in Spring 2024 to anticipated construction between Summer 2026 and Summer 2027, conditional on funding. These efforts add to the groundwork laid by the construction started in March that aims to enhance the connection between H Street and Sutter’s Landing Park.

Local engagement in such community-focused plans is pivotal, and the City encourages anyone with queries or input to reach out directly to the project team. Communication can be established via email at [email protected] or by phone at (916) 303-2086 where project details and considerations for the environmental impact through to the design aesthetics are up for discussion.
