San Antonio motorists are bracing for significant disruptions as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) embarks on multiple construction projects impacting roadways across the city. In an effort to expand and improve the longstanding Interstate 35 Northeast corridor, TxDOT has announced that the westbound main lanes of Loop 410 at Perrin Beitel Road will be inaccessible to drivers on Thursday and Friday evening. According to KSAT, these lanes will close from 8 p.m. each evening to 6 a.m. the following mornings, steering drivers towards adjacent frontage roads for navigation around the closures.
In an parallel development, long-term closure plans loom for eastside commuters as the eastbound entrance ramp from East Houston Street to southbound Loop 410 shuts down until summer 2025. Drivers ordinarily relying on this route will need to reroute to the entrance at Rigsby Avenue. Despite the disruption, "highway traffic should not be impacted" by this particular closure, assured TxDOT in a statement obtained by MySA. Additionally, no closures are anticipated for Loop 1604 North through the recent Labor Day weekend, providing a brief respite amid the ongoing changes.
These transportation infrastructure upgrades are indicative of the broader push by city officials to refine mobility and accommodate growth. In July, San Antonio officials commenced construction on Wurzbach Road, targeting significant improvements near the bustling Medical Center. The work, expected to extend into winter 2025, will proceed in four stages, starting from the stretch between I-10 and Bluemel Road. To mitigate traffic congestion, much of the construction is occurring nocturnally, allowing daytime travel to remain largely unimpeded for the area's dense traffic flow.
