A tow truck driver in San Antonio is facing investigation after it was reported that he towed a vehicle with a young child inside, local authorities say. The San Antonio Police Department noted that towing a car with a person inside is not only against company protocols but also illegal. The incident occurred when a mother left her car in an apartment complex parking lot with her 5-year-old daughter inside, as the child was not feeling well.
The mother, Dolores Bueso, had left the car for less than five minutes with the hazard lights and air conditioning on to check if a family member was home. Upon realizing her vehicle was being towed, Bueso attempted to alert the tow truck driver but was unable to prevent the car and her daughter from being taken. A witness, identified as Gilbert Ramirez, responded to the scene as Bueso found herself in an emergent state, tormented by the sudden absence of her child. According to a WAFB interview, Ramirez recounted, "She was crying. She was screaming."
Trinity Towing, the company responsible for the tow, said in a statement that their driver followed the necessary protocols. However, the company acknowledged the gravity of the situation, conceding it could have been much more serious, as KSAT reported. The driver is under investigation for a possible charge of child endangerment. The mother and daughter were reunited at the tow yard after the mother experienced a medical emergency that thwarted her initial attempt to pursue the truck.
