Yesterday afternoon on the Southwest Side, a woman's peaceful walk was interrupted when she was bitten by a dog. The 44-year-old was walking on West Southcross Boulevard near Priscilla Street when a group of unleashed dogs ran out from a house and one bit her on the right leg, according to KENS 5.
Following the incident, which unfolded around 4 p.m., authorities arrived at a scene where Animal Services and the San Antonio Police Department were met with hostile dogs. One patrol vehicle had its strobe light torn off. A business owner, who wished to remain anonymous, told KSAT he saw the dogs leap over their barrier. After a brief distraction, he looked back to witness the terrifying scene and saw a passerby’s truck rescue the woman, who was surrounded by the dogs.
Police reports indicated that the injuries were relatively minor, though this may downplay the dangers posed by urban wildlife. Animal Care Services is currently investigating to identify the main aggressive dog and understand why these domesticated animals displayed such wild behavior. Lisa Norwood from Animal Care Services mentioned that the dog's owner faces several criminal citations due to violations of leash laws, as well as failures to follow vaccination and microchipping requirements, as reported by both KENS 5 and KSAT.
