In an incident out of San Antonio, a 25-year-old woman has been identified as the victim of a tragic accident involving a U-Haul truck. The Bexar County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the woman as Ashley Alvarez, as reported by FOX San Antonio.
The accident occurred while the family was moving into a new residence on the northeast side, near Remount Drive and Fratt Road. Police reports, sourced from KENS 5, suggest that on Friday around 8 p.m., Alvarez was struck when her mother, attempting to move the U-Haul forward, mistakenly put the vehicle in reverse and, accelerated instead of using the brakes.
The victim was standing behind the truck guiding her mother, a necessary, but as it turned out, a fateful act of assistance. After being hit by the truck, Alvarez sustained serious injuries and was promptly taken to a local hospital. Despite efforts to save her, Alvarez was pronounced dead at the medical facility.
Amid the shock of the occurrence, the SAPD has mentioned that no criminal charges have been filed at this time, treating the distressing event as an accident. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
