The weather is influenced by a 557 DM upper low northeast of Sacramento, which is expected to "continue to dig SSE today is it slowly begins to fill," according to the National Weather Service Sacramento CA. Showers are likely to be concentrated near the low center and over the mountains, where isolated thunderstorms may also occur due to areas of higher CAPE. Temperatures are dipping significantly, with predictions of "20+ degrees below normal" for today's high. In the mountains and foothills, temperatures will range from the 40s to 60s, while the Central Valley will see low to mid-70s.
As we move into Tuesday, we see a slight reprieve with drier conditions and a hint of warmth creeping back in. However, a short wave trough forecast to descend upon the West Coast by Tuesday night promises to reintroduce "another round of unsettled weather to interior NorCal" with an increased probability of precipitation spreading southward Tuesday night and a "widespread threat of showers over the CWA Wednesday," as reported by National Weather Service Sacramento CA.
