A police shooting incident unfolded in the Tenderloin District yesterday when San Francisco Police officers, part of the Healthy Street Operation Center (HSOC), encountered an armed individual. According to the San Francisco Police Department's report, the event began at about 10:18 a.m. near Jessie and 6th Streets during a routine operation. Officers spotted a man with a firearm inside a vehicle, which quickly escalated into a foot chase when the subject fled.
The chase led into a nearby retail store and later descended into the Powell BART station. The officers attempted to make contact non-violently, yet during the encounter, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was hit but sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and a firearm was recovered at the scene. First responders rendered aid, and the suspect was subsequently taken to the hospital.
This case is now the subject of a multi-agency investigation, including the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, the San Francisco Police Department’s Investigative Services Division (ISD), the Internal Affairs Division (IAD), and the Department of Police Accountability (DPA). The incident remains under active scrutiny, with the understanding that all disclosed information is preliminary and could change as the investigation progresses.
The SFPD has pledged to maintain transparency throughout this process and will hold a town hall meeting within ten days to discuss the officer-involved shooting. Details on the community meeting will be provided as they become available. Meanwhile, anyone with information pertinent to the shooting is encouraged to contact the SFPD at 1-415-575-4444 or to text a tip to TIP411, starting the message with SFPD.
