San José Fire Department crews were dispatched yesterday to combat a large vegetation fire that erupted at the intersection of Tully Road and northbound 101. The incident, which began around 3:20 PM, resulted in heavy traffic disruptions along Tully Road and prompted authorities to advise motorists to seek alternative routes.
The fire's proximity to local businesses led to an advisory for those establishments to shelter in place. No evacuation orders were issued at this stage, but concerns escalated when the blaze damaged a utility pole. Officials continued to monitor the situation closely, keeping the community apprised of developments via social media updates.
As the fire persisted, Tully Road was closed in both directions. With heavy smoke billowing southward, residents located south of the incident were similarly asked to remain indoors, closing doors and windows, to minimize exposure to smoke. These precautions were essential for ensuring public safety while firefighters worked to contain and extinguish the fire.
Ultimately, the efforts of the San José Fire Department were successful, and the scene was cleared with all lanes of traffic reopened. No injuries were reported. According to an update, one hotel incurred minor external damage due to the proximity of the flames, yet no structures were otherwise involved in the fire.
