In a late-night incident on Sebastopol Road, Santa Rosa police arrested Jorge Leopoldo Jr., a 29-year-old felon found in illegal possession of a firearm while intoxicated. The situation began with a 911 call reporting an altercation where Leopoldo was involved in a fight with three other men. When officers arrived, one suspect fled, leading to a brief chase that ended with a crash into a fence. Leopoldo, heavily intoxicated, was apprehended after a standoff observed through a police drone, which allowed officers to approach safely and de-escalate the situation, as reported by the Santa Rosa Police Department.
After the crash, police found a loaded Glock pistol in Leopoldo's vehicle, a violation of his status as a convicted felon. He was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and then booked on multiple charges, including DUI and illegal firearm possession. The Santa Rosa Police Department utilized its Armored Response Vehicle and drone technology to ensure a controlled and safe resolution to the incident, highlighting its strategic approach to handling potentially volatile situations.
This case, documented under Santa Rosa Police case numbers 24-10444 and 24-10446, underscores the importance of combining traditional law enforcement methods with advanced technology.
