A swift response from the Santa Rosa Fire Department kept a vegetation fire in check yesterday near Southwest Community Park, again proving the critical importance of rapid emergency intervention.
According to the City of Santa Rosa Fire Department, the fire was reported at 11:59 am in an undeveloped area adjacent to the park at the intersection of Tuxhorn Drive and Silver Spur Drive. Hovering just before a potential escalation, the blaze devoured a quarter acre of mowed seasonal grasses.
No threats were reported to the nearby Meadow View Elementary School while the fire burned, and the children remained unaffected by smoke dangers, maintaining a normal school day. The decisive action of the firefighting teams allowed them to contain the fire by 12:09 p.m. With three engines and one battalion on the scene, the emergency personnel extinguished the fire swiftly.
