The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) is continuing its search for one missing individual following a tragic incident at the Salt River, where one person was found deceased after two swimmers reportedly went underwater and failed to resurface. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the MCSO responded to the scene at approximately 5:30 p.m. on September 18, upon receiving reports of a drowning at the Sheep’s Crossing Recreation Site.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered two good Samaritans performing CPR on a man near the shoreline, approximately 300 yards upstream from Blue Rock Beach. The man, despite the efforts of deputies who took over the life-saving attempts, was pronounced dead on the scene. He has yet to be identified. Meanwhile, the authorities launched a search for the second person, utilizing a combination of foot patrols, drone technology, and MCSO Aviation with, as of the initial reports, no success.

In a similar coverage by 12News, it was reported that multiple people "became distressed" in the water before the two individuals submerged and did not come back up. The search endeavor for the missing swimmer was paused and is set to resume on the morning of September 19, with no new details on the missing individual available at the time.

The MCSO has not released any additional details regarding the incident or the identity of either the deceased or the missing person.
