Seattle Community Invited to Discuss and Review Firehouse Mini Park Play Area Renovation DesignsSource: Seattle Government

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is reaching out to the local community for input on the upcoming play area renovation planned for Firehouse Mini Park. Residents will have the opportunity to review and comment on the conceptual designs during a public meeting organized by SPR. The meeting will be held on Saturday, September 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Byrd Bard Place, conveniently located next to the park at 722 18th Ave. Attendees can look forward to meeting the project team and enjoying a complimentary lunch while providing their insights on the proposed play area options.

The upgrade to Firehouse Mini Park, announced by Seattle Parkways, will include replacing outdated play equipment, installing new site furnishings, and redesigning the lawn area. The park will also undergo accessibility improvements to meet current standards. A key feature is the renovation of planting areas and the addition of new Engineered Wood Fiber (EWF) safety surfacing under the play equipment.

SPR emphasizes the value of community participation in shaping the park's future. "Together we create the best park for the neighborhood," the team stated, highlighting the importance of local voices in the renovation process, as noted by Seattle Parkways. The design team will be on-hand to discuss the play equipment design options and collect feedback from community members.

Following the meeting, SPR plans to extend the conversation by releasing a short online survey. The survey will collect additional input from those unable to attend the in-person event or who wish to provide further commentary. Engaging with the community through diverse channels ensures a wide range of perspectives are considered before final decisions are made.
