On the quiet Sunday morning of September 22, a fire erupted at Mt Baker Preschool, a Seattle preschool located at 2800 South Massachusetts Street, with fire crews quickly responding to the scene. According to FOX 13 Seattle, the exterior flames infiltrated the building, but firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, ensuring no spread to the neighboring structures.
MyNorthwest reported the daycare is associated with the now-defunct Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, closed by the Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle in 2022. The fire though intense, did not affect the main building of the historic church site adjacent to it, and firefighter teams conducted a thorough search of the building confirming there were no individuals inside at the time of the incident.
The Seattle Fire Department has not reported any injuries resulting from the incident and the cause of the fire remains undetermined. As reported by KOMO News, there were no indications of suspicious activities before the outbreak of the flames. The Seattle Fire Department is now investigating to establish how the fire got started.
The daycare facility sustained heavy damages as the fire department's spokesperson noted, an investigation is currently underway to unearth the cause of the fire and at the moment it is unclear how the fire started.
