Seattle's Fire Station 41 recently witnessed a remarkable transformation, as a community effort led to the creation of an upgraded landscaped garden complete with a public art installation. The project, which began in mid-2023, showcased the synergy between the local Carleton Park Garden Club, Rainbow of Magnolia Landscaping, and the city's firefighters.
According to a statement from Seattle Firefighter Mark Hauge, reported by the Seattle Fire Department, the planning group celebrated the fruits of their collaborative labor with a dedication ceremony on September 26. Hauge shared, "Shortly after, the garden club approached a local landscaping company (Rainbow of Magnolia Landscaping), and the project came to fruition. Fire Station 41 is beyond grateful for the funding, labor and time they’ve put in to providing a complete makeover of our garden and creating a beautiful location for the neighborhood."
Funding for the garden was a joint effort, with the City of Seattle Neighborhood Matching Fund contributing $5,000 and the National Garden Club’s Plant America project chipping in an additional $2,000. Rainbow of Magnolia Landscaping's donation in services was estimated at $10,000. The Carleton Park Garden Club was responsible for project management and worked closely with the fire station beginning in August 2023, leading to the commencement of the garden build in January 2024.
