Seattleites looking for street parking around the upcoming Judkins Park Light Rail Station could be in for a change as the SDOT pitches a new plan for a Restricted Parking Zone (RPZ) in the area. According to the Seattle Department of Transportation, the proposed RPZ aims to curtail all-day parking by light rail users, reserving more space for residents and short-term visitors, including patrons of nearby businesses, schools, and parks.
The plan involves parking restrictions to prevent commuter overflow, which means a 2-hour parking limit for non-permit holders from 7 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday. A map showing the proposed boundaries reveals the area to be covered in its proposal. It has considered community feedback, thus expanding the RPZ by an additional block to the north, now suggesting one larger zone rather than the initially considered two smaller ones.
The public response to the idea appears enthusiastic: "84% of respondents support our project goals and 75% of residents surveyed agree with creating a Restricted Parking Zone," the Seattle Department of Transportation reported. Local residents and businesses in the Judkins Park vicinity are encouraged to provide more input at the upcoming virtual hearing. Details of the hearing have been announced, with the session slated for September 25, 2024, at 6 PM, accessible online via Microsoft Teams.
