Second Human Skull Found in Gifford Pinchot National Forest as Investigations Intensify in WashingtonSource: Facebook/Skamania County Sheriff's Office

The Gifford Pinchot National Forest has turned into a foreboding scene as not one, but two human skulls have been discovered within a span of a month. The latest find, reported by a bear hunter near the Sawtooth Berry Fields on September 4.

According to KOIN, the discovery prompted an investigation by the Skamania County Sheriff's Office. Detectives from the county retrieved the skull, confirming it belonged to a human. The chilling find follows last month's recovery of another set of skeletal remains believed to be those of an Oregon hiker who has been missing since 2013, spreading concern among local residents and forest-goers. The initial set of remains was located not far from where the recent skull was found, bringing to light possible connections between the two.

The investigation into the second skull is currently underway, with the remains having been sent for forensic analysis to aid in identification. Officials, trying to assuage fears, have stated "There is no indication that the discovery poses a public safety risk," as noted in an article by KIRO7.  For now, the Skamania County Sheriff's Office and other involved law enforcement agencies continue meticulous work.
