Authorities in Osceola County have made a second arrest in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred outside of Kissimmee last November. On Friday, ClickOrlando reported that 29-year-old Joshua Franceschi was apprehended at HCA Florida Osceola Hospital under a false name following a tip-off to police. The arrest follows that of 31-year-old Christopher Martin Garrett earlier this year, with both men implicated in the murder of Joshua Daniel Mitchell.
On the night of the shooting, November 14, 2023, Mitchell and Franceschi, alongside Garrett, were in a parking lot of the Lungo Cafe, sharing drinks, when the altercation occurred—according to a statement reported by WFTV, surveillance footage, and witness testimonies provided insights into the events leading to Mitchell's death. Franceschi is now facing charges of premeditated murder and battery, detained on no bond for the murder charge. Garrett, who was arrested in January, is believed to have shot Mitchell while Franceschi struck him, leading to his death.
The incident that led to Mitchell's murder began with a social encounter that turned violent. Mitchell's girlfriend, who had been asleep in the vehicle, was awakened by distressing news that Mitchell had been shot. She witnessed Garrett moving "to a position of advantage" before the fatal shot was fired, as per the surveillance footage analysis mentioned in the ClickOrlando report.
The victim and one of the suspects had a history. Mitchell had defused a potentially dangerous situation involving Franceschi and a firearm weeks before the shooting. On the night of the murder, Franceschi allegedly brought up that past incident. What started as a parking lot gathering ended in a fatal shot, with Franceschi's arrest revealing a history of tension and a tragic escalation.
