The Seguin Fire Department is mobilizing its resources from today to Sept. 21 for an extensive active shooter training exercise at the First Baptist Church, located at 1314 E. Cedar Street, right across from Seguin High School. According to a notification posted on the City of Seguin's official website, the trainings are scheduled every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m..
Residents in the vicinity should expect to see a heightened police presence, along with significant activity in and around the training site. In a warmth of community safety, officials state clearly that there is no actual threat posed to residents, as the presence is strictly for training purposes.
The training is designed to fine-tune the emergency response skills of local law enforcement and emergency services. As part of the exercise, those nearby may be privy to the distressing sounds of blank ammunition and various vigorous training devices; rest assured these are part of the planned protocol to cultivate a realistic training environment.
Community members and passersby are advised to maintain a safe distance from the training area and to refrain from alarm. There will be clear markers and signs indicating the boundaries of the exercise, and local authorities have taken every precaution to minimize disruption to the daily life. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of such trainings lies in the realism they impart, and so auditory disturbances might be inevitable.
The Seguin Fire Department and local officials underscore the importance of these drills, aiming to ensure that in the event of a real crisis, response teams are prepared to act swiftly and effectively to protect public safety.
