The first accident occurred on Alturas Babson Park Cutoff Road near US 27 in Frostproof, and it involved at least two vehicles. The Polk County Sheriff's Office reported to WFLA that six people were injured in the crash.
Emergency services quickly responded to the scene around 8:21 p.m., where three individuals were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals, and another three, including a child, were airlifted due to their injuries. As per the information provided by ABC Action News, at least one of these injuries is considered to potentially be life-threatening. The investigation is still ongoing, with the authorities looking to quickly ascertain the full scale of the consequences of this incident.
Merely minutes after the first crash, deputies were dispatched to a second incident north of Lakeland on Rockridge Road near Country Place Road. This separate crash was reported to involve a single vehicle that struck a tree, leading to the tragic death of one individual. The connection between these two accidents, if any, has yet to be established.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation into both crashes and is expected to release further details on Monday. "Deputies are currently investigating two "very serious" car crashes," the sheriff's office disclosed in a statement obtained by ABC Action News.
As of now, the conditions of those involved in the first crash have not been made public. The sheriff's office has noted that one of the victims is a minor, further underlining the gravity of the situation, as shared by WTSP.
