A young life was abruptly ended this weekend in Shelby, as a 17-year-old was fatally shot at a local park. The Shelby Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on Saturday at around 3 p.m. in Jefferson Park, located in the 1000 block of Buffalo Street. The victim was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries according to WBTV.
The circumstances that led to the violence did not originate at the park itself. Shelby police believe that an altercation which started elsewhere escalated quickly to fatally involve gun violence. The identity of the teen has been withheld, but he has been described as a Black male by the Shelby Police Department. As of now, no suspects have been arrested in connection to the shooting, and authorities are actively seeking to swiftly bring the perpetrator to justice, as per a statement WCCB Charlotte reported.
This tragic incident adds to the growing concerns over gun violence affecting youth in our neighborhoods. Following the incident, the victim was transported by EMS to Atrium-Cleveland where he later died, as reported by WCNC.
The Shelby Police Department has issued a call for witnesses or anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward. They hope to piece together the events that tragically concluded in the untimely death of this teen. The police are determined to not hastily make an arrest, ensuring that they thoroughly investigate to find the individual responsible for this act, WCCB Charlotte conveyed.
