A student at Ocoee High School caused a stir on Thursday morning after being found with parts of a disassembled handgun in their backpack, according to the Ocoee Police Department. According to WFTV, the incident, which kicked off around 8:30 a.m., followed a tip that a student may have had a firearm on school premises. A search conducted by School Resource Officers resulted in the discovery of the lower half of a handgun, an extended magazine, and additional contraband.

The situation remains tense as the whereabouts of the remaining gun components are yet to be determined. While no injuries were reported, the school took immediate preventive measures by having students stay in their classrooms during the initial probe. According to a WESH, this discovery has heightened concerns as it comes in the wake of recent threats at various other schools in the state.
