Gresham police confirmed an incident involving a shooting last night that injured at least one person and compromised a residential gas line, leading to an evacuation of the area. The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. near the intersection of 186th Avenue and East Burnside Street, as stated by KGW. The victim's current health status has not been disclosed.
Following the shooting, emergency crews, rushing to address the safety hazard caused by the damaged gas line, advised residents to evacuate. According to KGW, these evacuations were subsequently lifted this morning. As of now, Gresham police have not released what might have led to the violence, nor have they mentioned any suspects in the matter.
Alongside Gresham police, firefighters were dispatched to the Rockwood Mobile Court to assist in the evacuation process and manage the ruptured gas line. Northwest Natural, the gas company involved, was on the scene to shut off the line and assess the damage. The gas was turned off by 10:30 p.m., with NW Natural continuing efforts to resolve the issue, KPTV reported.
KATU shared a statement from Det. Adam Wright explained how officers and Gresham Fire Department personnel "worked to evacuate residents from the affected buildings while the leak was isolated. The gas is now off," while describing the event as "a very active scene" last night. NW Natural is overseeing the repair of the damaged infrastructure, aiming to restore normalcy in the wake of the chaos caused by the bullets.
