Simone Biles, the iconic Houston gymnast lauded for her Olympic and World Championship accolades, is gearing up to make her mark in the culinary world. Partnering with The Playmakers Group, Biles is set to introduce "A Taste of Gold," a new restaurant at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport, slated to open its doors in early 2025. This venture is a nod to her storied athleticism and a chance for her to share her passion for food with the world—or at least those passing through Terminal A.
According to the Houston Chronicle, "A Taste of Gold" is expected to "wow" travelers with a menu crafted by Mark Brezinski, a notable figure in the restaurant industry. The culinary offerings aim to resonate with the excellence Biles has frequently showcased in her athletic career while incorporating some of her personal favorite flavors. Simone Biles told the Houston Chronicle, “I am a foodie at heart, and our hope with Taste of Gold is to offer a beautiful dining experience that features award-winning, signature menu items with some of my favorite flavors sprinkled in for our guests.”
As for the location, construction is well underway in Terminal A, near Gate A8. Francisco Cuellar, Chief Commercial Development Officer for Houston Airports, was quoted by Click2Houston expressing admiration for Biles' inspirational trajectory. "We join the millions of people around the world who find inspiration in Simone Biles, an athlete who continues to raise the bar while achieving success and defying expectations. Houston Airports is on the same history-making trajectory as we redefine what it means to dine inside an airport," Cuellar remarked.
The restaurant's operation will be overseen by SSP America, an established partner with a record of managing successful airport concessions.
