
In the early hours of Labor Day Monday, firefighters in Southeast D.C. faced a residential blaze that left a family and their two pets without a home. As reported by DC News Now, the fire, which was reported around 3:23 a.m., occurred in the 1700 block of W Street. It was swiftly extinguished by the DC Fire and EMS Department crews who arrived on site to find smoke emanating from a two-story dwelling.

The firefighters discovered the source of the fire on the first floor and the back porch, quickly getting the situation under control. In the rescue efforts, a dog and a cat were safely removed from the premises. As seen in a video posted by the fire department, first responders tendered care, providing the dog with oxygen. According to WSET, no injuries were reported among the three adults and two children, and the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
The incident has prompted an investigation to determine its cause, with no immediate details revealing what led up to the fire, as per WUSA 9.
