During a routine patrol, Splendora Police witnessed an alleged street race between a Mustang and a Camaro, along Highway 59 and Creekwood. According to a Facebook post by Splendora Police Department, the two vehicles were seen accelerating at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic, thereby creating a hazard on the roadway.
The involved officers' response led to the apprehension of both vehicles involved in the racing, the Camaro by a Splendora officer and the Mustang by Patton Village Police. During the stops, each driver reportedly admitted to racing, the Splendora Police Department disclosed in their social media update.
Further investigation of the vehicles revealed that both contained firearms, leading to additional charges for the drivers. Both were arrested for Racing on the Highway and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon (UCW). The coordination between the two police departments ensured the swift curtailment of the dangerous activity.
