The City of St. Louis Park's extensive pavement management project is well underway with updates streaming in from the engineers and coordinators tasked with bringing smoother, safer streets to our community. The latest developments have been shared in the 2024 Pavement Management Update #22, ensuring that residents are kept in the loop regarding the progress of the roadworks. As shared by Project Engineer Aaron Wiesen, the first phase of construction is nearing completion, only awaiting the final lift of pavement on Vernon Avenue and some minor finishing tasks, leading the residents of Vernon Avenue to breathe a collective sigh of relief.
For those navigating the intersection of Wooddale Avenue and 41st Street, the removal of existing pavement and the crosswalk was finished this past Monday, with the promise of new pavement and fresh crosswalk markings that are to be laid down soon, though the date remains as yet undecided. Walking the residents closer to friendlier and smoother commutes, these updates signpost the city's commitment to revamping its streetscapes, detail by detail.
In an effort to green the corridors through which we drive, the second phase is, literally, laying down roots; with the installation of sod as a priority, it will continue in the coming week. Following closely on the heels of what remains an unspecified date for the final touch of bituminous pavement on 39th Street, the milling of which was finished in tandem with the works at the Wooddale-41st Street intersection.
Concurrently, phase three works are shaping up with grading for new sidewalks paving the way—quite literally—for concrete work slated to commence later this week or the next. And as reported, once the precision art of the concrete work is set in stone, the contractors are poised to start backfilling behind the curbs, adding new topsoil for the eventual bloom of an aesthetically pleasing and complete streetscape. With a sense of urgency steeping into their schedule as autumn approaches, underground utility replacement in phase four — which includes essential water, storm, and sanitary systems — marches on with an expected completion date of September 20. The concrete installation will follow suit, taking the baton from phase three once their own concrete tasks have solidified.
Details of this urban renewal initiative are always accessible to the public, and those keen to dig deeper into the schedules, maps, and specifics of each project phase can inquire via the email addresses provided for Aaron Wiesen and Tom Leonhardt or explore the project newsletter. The City of St. Louis Park continues to overflow with efforts to enhance the quality of its thoroughfares, keeping transparency and communication with the city's inhabitants a paved street closer to the community's heart.
