Residents of St. Louis Park can look forward to smoother streets and improved mobility as the city's Pavement Management Project progresses into various phases of construction and improvement. Detailed information on the project’s latest developments was shared in a bulletin, with P.E., the project engineer, and Tom Leonhardt, the project coordinator, giving the community insights on what to expect in the coming weeks.
The construction update for Phase 1 indicates that most of the work is complete, except for the final layer of pavement on Vernon Avenue and several punch list items that remain outstanding. A significant development is slated for the upcoming week: "The removal of the existing pavement and crosswalk at the intersection of Wooddale Avenue and 41st Street is expected to be completed on Monday, September 16," as per the City's update. Following this, residents should expect the paving of new pavement surfaces and the application of fresh crosswalk paint.
In its second phase, the project has the contractor focused on landscaping tasks, such as filling disturbed areas with topsoil. "The installation of sod is expected to start this week and continue into the following week," the project newsletter stated. The final touch, the paving of the final lift of bituminous pavement, is set to come after the sod installation, although a specific date has yet to be determined. Furthermore, residents should anticipate milling on 39th Street in phase 2 to commence on September 16.
Concrete work is the main event for Phase 3 in this timeframe. Crews are installing concrete curbs, driveways, and sidewalks. This meticulous work "will continue for a few weeks," according to the City of St. Louis Park. Meanwhile, Phase 4 is focusing on essential infrastructure with underground utility replacement—water, storm, and sanitary systems—which is expected to wrap up by September 20.
