Earlier today, a mother and daughter found themselves in a perilous situation as their St. Petersburg home on Bayside Drive South was consumed by flames. As per reports from WFLA, the two-story structure was ablaze, which resulted in the pair being trapped in the backyard, due to a locked gate for which the keys were inside the burning home, firefighters responded after multiple 911 calls were made regarding the incident, managing to rescue the mother and daughter through an alley adjacent to the property.
According to details furnished by FOX 13 News, St. Petersburg Fire Rescue (SPFR) reached the scene shortly after 12:30 a.m. to find intense flames engulfing the main house and a bungalow located behind it, with the possibility of the fire spreading to adjacent homes looming overhead.
Nonetheless, the efforts of the firefighters were successful, as reported by ABC Action News, which indicated that the team managed to contain the fire to the original structure, ensuring safety of surrounding homes along with the two residents, though they faced intense heat and falling embers that could've hampered their mission, the fire was brought under control after burning for over an hour with no reported injuries, the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
