
A shooting at the University of Arizona has left a Pima Community College student dead, according to university authorities. The incident occurred late yesterday evening near Sonora Hall, located on the university's campus in Tucson.
The University of Arizona Police Department was to quickly respond to the scene after Tucson Police Department reported the incident at approximately 11 p.m. Upon arrival at the volleyball courts positioned just east of the dorms, officers discovered the victim beside a vehicle. Despite attempted life-saving measures, the student was declared dead at the scene, as detailed in a report by AZFamily.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting, according to authorities, included an "altercation" between multiple individuals. Following the shooting, witnesses transported the victim to a car with the intention of driving him to the hospital but instead awaited emergency crews in the parking lot, as noted by AZFamily.
Currently, authorities are on the lookout for a suspect described as a six-foot-tall male, aged between 19 and 25. He possibly has Middle Eastern or Hispanic descent with dark curly hair and facial hair. He was last reported to be wearing a white short-sleeved T-shirt with tan shorts, according to information provided by FOX 10 Phoenix. Witnesses also described the weapon used in the fatal incident as a small black handgun. The investigation remains ongoing as officials search for the suspect.
Following the incident, the university police blocked access to the volleyball courts and secured the area, seen by crews from KOLD News 13, as per AZFamily. This tragic event continues to be under investigation, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward in hopes of locating the individual responsible for this act of violence on campus.
