The search for the suspect in a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 7-year-old Cleveland boy has culminated in an arrest. U.S. Marshals apprehended 32-year-old Donald Mynatt this morning in connection with the fatal accident that took the life of Amir Maclin, also known as Amir Prewitt, according to Cleveland19. The boy was riding his skateboard in a parking lot when he was struck by a vehicle described as a large SUV with tinted windows.
Following the hit-and-run, which occurred around 7:20 p.m. on August 16, local law enforcement and U.S. Marshals had been on the hunt for Mynatt, finding connections to multiple phones and vehicles. This led to his capture in the 4800 block of E. 355th St. in Willoughby, FOX 8's I-Team reports. Records also revealed that Mynatt's driver's license was already suspended, and he was wanted in another unspecified case.
Mynatt is charged with not stopping after an accident and causing a death, charges that were detailed following his arrest. A vigil was previously held in remembrance of young Amir, where his mother expressed a raw and heart-wrenching uncertainty, "I appreciate everyone coming, I appreciate the love and condolences, but I don't know who did this," his mother told 3News, "The killer could be amongst me right now, and I wouldn't know, because nobody wants to speak up."
Cleveland City Councilman Mike Polensek has been quoted discussing the suspect's past interactions with the law, which date back to his teenage years. The FOX 8 I-Team investigation has surfaced an existing arrest warrant for Mynatt for failure to appear in Cuyahoga County Court in a domestic violence case, and these elements combined paint a complex portrait of the days leading up to the tragic event and the man now held accountable for the young life cut devastatingly short.
