The suspect involved in the recent U.S. Highway 36 shooting, which left a Colorado State Patrol trooper wounded, has been identified. The coroner's office for Adams and Broomfield counties named 32-year-old Victor Anthony De Santiago from Thornton as the deceased gunman who initiated the gunfire on Saturday afternoon, according to KDVR.

During the incident, Trooper Tye Simcox, a seasoned member of the Colorado State Patrol with 16 years under his belt, found himself under attack while parked in his patrol vehicle. Simcox was between two concrete barriers working on reports when De Santiago, who was driving a black Chevy pickup, slowed down and opened fire with a semi-automatic handgun, as Denver7 reported. The trooper sustained injuries to his lower right arm from the assault.

Colonel Matthew Packard, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol, provided details in a Saturday evening press conference, confirming that the attack occurred in the eastbound center median of US 36, just west of Federal Boulevard. Trooper Simcox's injuries were non-life-threatening despite the dangerous situation, as noted by CBS News.
