Early Wednesday led to a dramatic scene in the Belle Isle neighborhood when a suspected drunk driver crashed after a high-speed pursuit instigated by Polk County deputies. According to ClickOrlando, the chase culminated around 3:30 a.m., with the pursued vehicle being forced off the road and ending up in a resident's backyard.
The driver, maneuvering a Jeep, appeared to stylishly make a U-turn before striking a fire hydrant and creating a flood on local streets—complications that Orange County Utilities and city maintenance are currently addressing. The police intervention included a successful PIT maneuver on Gondola Drive, within Polk County limits, which ultimately ended this high-velocity chase, FOX 35 Orlando reported.
The apprehension of the suspect, who was the sole occupant of the Jeep, was swift but not without incident. The suspect reportedly sustained a dog bite from a deputy K9 as he was extracted from his crashed vehicle. Subsequent to the incident, the driver was taken to a local hospital, though his condition remains undisclosed. Despite the invasive action, authorities assured that there was no further threat to the public.
