A sobering incident unfolded in downtown Los Angeles early Saturday when a suspected drunk driver, operating a Tesla, crashed into other vehicles, ultimately striking pedestrians near a food truck. This happened around 12:30 A.M. at the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Georgia Street, as reported by NBC Los Angeles.
According to ABC7, the chain-reaction crash caused extensive damage, including a brick wall being knocked down and an ATM machine uprooted, the LAPD spokesperson on the scene confirmed that the driver of the Tesla had run a red light before the collision which sent an SUV careening onto the sidewalk where it struck two pedestrians and then crashed into two food trucks, resulting in injuries to three people. The severity of the injuries ranged, with at least one person being taken to hospital in an unknown condition, while others sustained minor injuries, meanwhile, the scene was left in disarray with mangled vehicle fronts and a food truck displaying the violent impact of the event.
Furthermore, KTLA captured footage of an altercation ensuing from the crash where an individual punched the Tesla driver, purportedly the source of the chaos, bystanders could be seen gathered around the Tesla discussing the ordeal before the confrontation escalated to violence, the Tesla driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, the fate of the man who delivered the punch remains as yet undetermined.
Pedestrians in the area at the time experienced the terrifying event firsthand as cars skidded out of control, based on the report from Fox LA, with paramedics rushing to the site where the crash also trapped an individual against a food truck, the total number of injuries was reported to be three, and while two were said to be minor the condition of the third person was not clear; the Los Angeles Police Department has taken one driver into custody under suspicion of DUI.
