Early this morning saw the apprehension of a shooting suspect in Sumner County, following an alert for a white Chevy Tahoe linked to a Wilson County incident. Dewight Corley, the driver of the vehicle, was captured after deputies conducted a risky traffic stop in the Bethpage area, near Highway 31E and Gifford Lane. The WKRN reports a loaded firearm, shell casings, and windows showing gunshot damage were found during a vehicle search.
Corley is no stranger to the law, with a history that includes accusations of shooting a father and son in Lebanon back in 2017. Now he is facing new allegations, having to contend once more with charges including aggravated assault, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and felony evading. This comes after deputies were able to quickly locate the vehicle and effectively manage to safely take him into custody, according to Sumner County Source.
The shooting, which prompted the alert and subsequent arrest of Corley, unfolded in the 6000 block of South Commerce Road in Watertown. There, a man was found by Wilson County deputies wounded by gunfire on a living room floor, claiming he did not recognize his shooter. "A neighbor heard a gunshot, followed by a pause, and then two additional gunshots," as reported by WKRN, adding that the victim's mother brought him into the house to call for emergency assistance after hearing her son scream.
In a follow-up to the shooting events, the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office, after being tipped off by counterparts in Wilson County, was to diligently track down the white Tahoe. Upon Corley's arrest, he was not only charged with charges stemming from the latest incident but also flagged due to the involvement of a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
