A playground in West Allis became the scene of an investigation after a fire suddenly erupted on Thursday afternoon, causing parents and children alike to reckon with the unexpected loss of a communal space. According to FOX6 News, the blaze began just before 5:30 p.m. at the playground adjacent to Franklin Fieldhouse, located near 86th and National.
Children in the community, such as a young local named Weston, are feeling the adverse impact of the playground's destruction. "I like going on the swings," Weston lamented in a statement obtained by TMJ4, underlying the sense of loss felt within the community.
By the time firefighters managed to fully extinguish the flames, slides and other playground equipment were melted down to almost nothing. As a result, the West Allis Police Department has launched an inquiry to possibly get to unravel the cause of the fire, which they are currently deeming as "suspicious". No one was injured in the incident, as per WISN.
