Englewood, Colorado was the focus of police activity Tuesday after authorities received an anonymous tip about a possible explosive device at Englewood High School, which shares a campus with Englewood Middle School and the Englewood Leadership Academy. The Englewood Police Department, as noted by KDVR, was investigating the threat, prompting a lockdown and evacuation of students.
The evacuation began just before noon, with Sgt. Jose that students were being moved to a secure location, after which a bomb squad and K-9 unit would sweep the school. This incident comes after two previous threats were reported within the same month, both were ultimately determined to be unfounded, despite the palpable tension they caused within the school community, the staff, and the families of those who walk those contested halls daily, as reported by Denver7.
An earlier bomb threat on September 9 and a subsequent tip on September 11 about Englewood Middle School being targeted were both investigated by the local police and deemed false. These threats are part of a wider pattern affecting schools across Colorado, outlined in a communication from Superintendent Joanna Polzin. "We have since learned that what occurred (Sept. 9) in Englewood does not seem to be an isolated incident," Polzin said, as detailed by Colorado Community Media. The September 9 threat was reported through Safe2Tell, a site designed for anonymous reporting within school communities.
