As Tampa gears up for Fire Prevention Week, set to take place from October 6 to 12, Tampa Fire Rescue has announced a safety initiative that residents shouldn't miss. In a move aimed at reducing fire hazards, the department, collaborating with the American Red Cross of Central Florida, is providing free smoke alarm installations. According to an article from the City of Tampa, installations will take place across different Tampa neighborhoods on scheduled dates.
Interested locals can sign up for the service, running under the theme "Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you," the event underscores the necessity of having functional smoke alarms at home. By providing this free service, Tampa Fire Rescue hopes to bring attention to the vital role smoke alarms play in maintaining fire safety. Residents must register for the installation service before October 1, on the Tampa Fire Rescue website.
The installment cycle kicks off in North Tampa on October 7, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., while subsequent days will cover East, South, and West Tampa respectively. Fire Chief Barbara Tripp highlighted the station's year-round commitment to fire safety, stating in the City of Tampa article, "By working together, we can make our community safer for everyone in Tampa." Meanwhile, Mayor Jane Castor contextualized the campaign as part of the city's larger responsibility towards its residents. "As a community, our greatest responsibility is to protect one another," Castor said.
Apart from installing alarms, Tampa Fire Rescue is also planning a series of community events and school programs dedicated to teaching fire safety during the week. Anyone looking for more information or to line up a smoke alarm installation can do so by visiting the Tampa Fire Rescue's website or calling the Public Education Division at 813-274-7002.
