Tragedy struck in northeast Las Vegas as a teenage boy was fatally shot in an apartment complex on Monday, details are emerging as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department delves into the investigation. According to FOX5 Vegas, officers were summoned to the 6900 block of Kepler Drive, near Hollywood and Lake Mead boulevards, after receiving reports of a shooting incident.
Upon arrival, law enforcement was directed by several individuals to an upstairs apartment unit, "where they were met by several people who directed them to an upstairs apartment unit," as per Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Homicide lieutenant Jason Johansson's briefing. The officers discovered a high school-aged teen suffering from a gunshot wound, after which he was promptly taken to hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries, in a statement obtained by News3LV.
According to FOX5 Vegas, the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unclear. Detectives are piecing together accounts from potential witnesses to determine the events leading up to and following the tragic incident. 'Police are still trying to figure out who was in the apartment at the time and if a fight occurred before the shooting,' Johansson explained.
As quoted in the media sources, Johansson states, "Inside the apartment, the victim was there with several other juveniles. Someone heard a gunshot then the victim came out of the room," as reported by FOX5 Vegas.
