A 17-year-old boy, once investigated in Oklahoma for the death of his father, has now been charged with the murder of his mother in Florida. Collin Griffith, the teen in question, was taken into custody by Polk County authorities after his mother, Catherine Griffith, was found dead from stab wounds in their Port Charlotte home on September 8, as reported by KFOR.

The incident that led to his arrest began with a 9-1-1 call where Griffith claimed his mother had accidentally fallen on a knife. However, the Polk County Sheriff's Office has expressed scepticism regarding his account. This tragic event comes after Griffith had previously been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his father, Charles Griffith, in February 2023. Despite the charges being dropped in Oklahoma due to claims of self-defense, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd called Griffith "a psychopath,” according to News 9.

In a statement obtained by KOCO, Sheriff Judd compared the language used by Griffith during the 9-1-1 call to that of the call he made 18 months earlier when he claimed he had to shoot his father. Neighbors also contradicted Griffith's version of events, telling officers they witnessed an argument between the teen and his mother outside their Florida home prior to her death.

The case has raised concerns about the previous handling of the Oklahoma incident, with Sheriff Judd publicly questioning if Oklahoma authorities did enough, in the light of the new allegations. Griffith is currently facing a first-degree murder charge for his mother's death, and Polk County officials have requested Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody prosecute Griffith as an adult, as noted by News 9.
