Over the weekend, a critical motor vehicle collision in Houston has left one young man dead and another individual facing charges. The accident, which took place on Lockwood Drive at about 9:55 p.m. on Saturday, resulted in an 18-year-old male losing his life after his vehicle was struck and rolled multiple times. According to a City of Houston report, his identity is still pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The incident unfolded as a purple Dodge pickup truck, driven by the deceased, was travelling southbound near the 1400 block of Lockwood Drive. It is then that the vehicle moved to enter the intersection with Market Street where it was hit by a westbound red Nissan Sentra. The force of the impact caused the Dodge to roll over several times before coming to a halt on its hood. HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Richards and Officer D. Thompson are actively working to conclusively identify who was at-fault in the crash.
Houston Fire Department paramedics were promptly dispatched to the scene, where they pronounced the Dodge's driver dead. The driver of the Nissan, identified as 26-year-old Lakeisha Woodfork, sustained injuries and was transported to an area hospital in stable condition. In an unsettling development, Woodfork was found to be intoxicated at the time of the collision and has since been charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.
As the investigation continues to progress, the pertinent question of who was at fault remains critical. Meanwhile, legal proceedings against Woodfork have already begun in Harris County Criminal Court #12, according to the same news release.
