The Tempe Police Department has released the names of the individuals involved in a fatal incident that occurred last month. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the victim has been identified as 77-year-old Roland B. Jahnke, with the suspect being his stepson, 55-year-old Robert Purdie. The case took a violent turn, leading to an officer-involved shooting, after police say Purdie pointed a gun at officers.

Officers were first dispatched to The Meadows mobile home park near 48th Street and Southern Avenue in the early morning hours of August 16. They were reacting to a distressing 911 call, made by a 74-year-old woman who believed her son fatally attacked her husband. In a scene that police soon swarmed, the woman, yet unharmed, was awaiting their arrival at the entrance, directing the responders to her residence. An officer of 16 years opened fire when Purdie turned the gun on police after initially pointing it at himself, as reported by AZ Family.

Currently, Robert Purdie remains in the hospital receiving medical treatment and has yet to face charges for the incident. "Once he is released from medical care, we will release his charges," a portion of the statement from Tempe Police detailed, as per FOX 10 Phoenix. Final determinations await his recovery, whereafter the legal proceedings can commence.

The investigation into Jahnke's death continues with Tempe Police at the helm. Meanwhile, the officer-involved shooting is under scrutiny by the Mesa Police and the East Valley Critical Response Team (EVCRT), aiming to discern the precise events that unfolded in that unfortunate August morning. No one else was reported injured in the incident, and the officer involved has not been named beyond his years of service. Found dead on the kitchen floor immediately following the shooting, Jahnke's fate was sealed in a domestic tragedy.
