The Texas Department of Public Safety is mourning the loss of one of their own today after Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez died following injuries sustained from being struck by a vehicle. Originally reported on the DPS website, Trooper Ramirez Vasquez was investigating an earlier traffic crash along SH 302 in Ector County when the fatal incident occurred on the morning of September 17.

Brought to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa with serious injuries, the 25-year-old trooper was soon airlifted to a hospital in the Lubbock area to desperately try and save his life. Unfortunately, after a valiant struggle, Trooper Ramirez Vasquez passed away on September 28, as conveyed in a poignant statement from the DPS.

DPS Director Steven McCraw told the DPS website, "There are no words to ease the loss of one of our brothers in uniform. Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez served this state honorably to his very last breath. His commitment to keeping the roads safe, protecting the people of Texas and the sacrifice he made will never be forgotten." McCraw also requested that the community keep the fallen trooper's family, friends, and colleagues in their thoughts during these trying times.

Beginning his law enforcement career with DPS in 2023, Trooper Ramirez Vasquez was stationed in Odessa. He had a strong service background, having served in the U.S. Army before joining the department, and was also a current member of the National Guard. Sadly, he became the 241st DPS officer to die in the line of duty since 1823. The trooper's service leaves behind his parents and three siblings, a gap that will likely never to be filled in their lives.

Details regarding funeral arrangements for Trooper Ramirez Vasquez will be released to the public in due course. The community mourns the loss of a dedicated officer whose life was cut short in the selfless act of service.
