A pedestrian was struck and subsequently killed by at least one vehicle yesterday in East Bexar County, officials reported. The fatality occurred around 12:45 a.m. at a rural junction, where U.S. Highway 87 intersects with FM 1516, as per the local authorities.
First responders from the China Grove Fire Department, as well as deputies from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, swiftly arrived on the scene to address the tragic incident. KSAT stated that the male pedestrian, whose identity is yet, to be disclosed, was pronounced dead by emergency personnel.
Recounting the moments that led up to the horrific event, the involved driver described a harrowing situation. They saw another vehicle swerve unexpectedly before them, which prompted a swift — but ultimately disastrous — reaction. The driver informed deputies that they observed a vehicle swerving in front of them, prompting them to try to steer their own vehicle out of the way, as reported by Life-Huchen.at.
However, the driver's attempt to evade the initial danger ended in tragedy when they struck the pedestrian. Following the first impact with the front end of their vehicle, there was a second collision, the driver told deputies that a white Jeep was also involved, hitting the pedestrian before continuing eastbound on Highway 87.
While the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office conducts further investigations, additional details remain sparse. There have been no other reported injuries stemming from the incident. The search for the second vehicle involved continues as officials urge anyone with information to come forward and aid in the investigative process.
